What is PhD in forestry?
PhD in forestry is a detailed study and research of environment, natural resources and forestry. After completing this, graduates usually get jobs at consulting firms, academic institutions or industrial agencies. Though this an in-depth study, one can get to know the opportunity and problems associated with the forestry ecosystems.
Type of degrees
There are two degrees and students may choose between Research Intensive and Professional tracks. In the first option, students have to do original research and to complete their thesis, whereas in the Professional Track, the students have to focus mainly on the course work, although they are also expected to complete their reports through researches. The professional track helps the students to choose a career in management sectors, non-governmental organizations, private and public sectors, whereas the Research Intensive track leads to careers towards research based jobs and applied sciences. Those who are interested in pursuing a PhD should choose the Research Intensive track.
How is the PhD in Forestry helpful?
This degree helps the students to get specialized education in many natural resources areas which involve probe and investigation of management subjects, scientific and natural fields. Students get access to lands which are managed by the Bureau of land, national park service, Forest Service and the native tribal organizations. Students are expected to complete their dissertation with original ideas to design, analyze and interpret the research.
One important point to ponder here is that you need to first understand your inclinations before opting or a PhD in Forestry. Any PhD for that cause needs a thorough interest on the part of students, lacking which, this becomes a useless activity.
